Maria Paula Angarita, an FIU physics major, recently presented the results of her summer research at the 2011 Joint Annual Conference of the National Society of Black Physicists and National Society of Hispanic Physicists, where she won three awards. Her work, done at MIT as part of the MIT Summer Research Program, was presented as a poster which won Best Poster related to the accelerator physics program at Jefferson Lab, a first place award from the Optical Society of America for best OSA-related poster, as well as a second place award from the division of condensed matter/materials of the American Physical Society. Maria Paula, who will graduate from FIU this spring with B.S. in Physics, hopes to begin pursuing a PhD in the fall of 2012.
